Amnesty International filed a Collective complaint on the housing situation of Roma in Italy

Amnesty International filed a complaint before European Committee of Social Rights in response to the ongoing scandal of the housing situation of Roma in Italy, Amnesty International filed a complaint on 18 March 2019 with the European Committee of Social Rights. The complaint is the first ever to be filed by Amnesty International under the Committee’s collective complaints procedure.

UK Government decided to scrap unjustified evictions pressured by NGOs

Until now, in England and Wales, landlords have been entitled by law to claim their property back and therefore evict their tenants, without providing a reason. These unjustified evictions, with just two months’ notice, are so called Section 21 Evictions as per reference to the Section 21 of the Housing Act of 1988.

    Spain: the ESCR Committee concerned that austerity measures have undermined the right to housing

     

    The UN Committee on the Economic, Social and Cultural Rights has published its findings on the countries it examined during its March 2018 session in Geneva. The findings cover how Spain is doing with regard to implementing the International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights, detailing positive developments, main areas of concern, and recommendations for action. 

    The Committee considered the sixth periodic report of Spain and at its 28th meeting, held on March 29, 2018, and adopted the concluding observations that follow:

    CESCR Ruling: eviction violated family’s human rights in Spain

     
    Spain violated the right to housing of a family with young children, who were evicted from a rented room in a flat without being provided with alternative housing.
     
    The independent experts, from the Geneva-based Committee on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights, issued their findings after considering a complaint by a couple, who were evicted from their Madrid home in 2013 with their children aged one and three.
