We are pleased to announce an upcoming academic event jointly organised by the University of Barcelona and the University of Essex, with the support of the Socio-Legal Studies Association (SLSA), and with the participation of Housing Rights Watch.
Title: Accountability and Progressive Realisation of Economic, Social and Cultural Rights
Date and Time: Wednesday, 18 September 2025, from 15:00 to 19:30
Location: Faculty of Law, University of Barcelona
This half-day seminar will bring together legal scholars, practitioners, and students to reflect on the role of legal and policy frameworks in advancing the progressive realisation of economic, social and cultural rights (ESCRs). Discussions will explore key accountability mechanisms at national and international level, including recent jurisprudence, implementation challenges, and the role of civil society.
Speakers will include experts working on ESCRs from legal, academic and institutional perspectives. The event aims to promote critical discussion on how human rights law can help address structural inequalities and ensure that social rights are effectively realised.
The programme can be downloaded here.
Please note that space is limited, as the event will take place in a university classroom. If you are interested in attending, we kindly ask you to write to us to express your interest. We will confirm your participation based on availability.
